The working principle of magnetostrictive level gauge is mainly based on magnetstrictive effect, which is a physical phenomenon that the length of ferromagnetic materials will change slightly under the action of magnetic field. The following is a detailed explanation of the working principle of magnetostrictive level gauge:
 
1. Overview of working principle
The magnetostrictive level gauge accurately calculates the height of the liquid level by measuring the magnetostrictive effect generated by the interaction between the built-in permanent magnet and the magnetic field in the detection rod when the float moves up and down with the change of liquid level.
 
2. Key components and functions
Electronic transmitter: responsible for generating and sending the starting current pulse, and receiving and processing the returned distortion wave signal. The starting pulse generates a magnetic field inside the detection rod that propagates rapidly along the rod.
Float: Built-in permanent magnet, moves up and down with the rise and fall of the measured liquid level. Its magnetic field interacts with the magnetic field in the detection rod to produce magnetostrictive effect.
 
Detection rod (waveguide or measuring rod): Made of special magnetostrictive material, it is used to transmit current pulses and receive the returned distortion wave signal. When the magnetic fields interact, the detection rod generates a tiny distortion wave (echo pulse) at the location of the float.
3. Workflow
Start pulse transmission: The electronic transmitter periodically sends a short current pulse to the probe rod.
 
Magnetic field interaction: The float moves up and down with the change of liquid level, and the magnetic field of the permanent magnet inside it meets the magnetic field in the probe rod, producing a magnetostrictive effect, thereby generating a tiny distortion wave at the interaction position.
 
Signal detection: The distortion wave propagates in the opposite direction along the probe rod at a fixed ultrasonic speed, and when it reaches one end of the probe rod, it is detected by the electronic transmitter.
 
Time measurement and calculation: By accurately measuring the time difference between the emission of the start pulse and the reception of the distortion wave signal, and then calculating the actual distance of the float (and liquid level) relative to the bottom of the sensor according to the speed of the distortion wave propagation in the material, the height of the liquid level is determined.
 
4. Application advantages
